Age Spots are caused by an accumulation of a yellow pigment called lipofuscin from ageing of the collagen producing cells. They are very common on the hands and face of middle aged and elderly people.
Age spots are usually small and well demarcated from the surrounding skin. Their color is variable – from light brown to almost black . During the life time the number of new age spots might significantly increase. Also the circuit may increase, and they might become darker. This is a result of overproduction and accumulation of melanin in the cells of the skin in response to the ultraviolet rays
